Beams usually come to us solid gray and weathered from aging/sun exposure. After light sanding and planing, the original saw marks are exposed.
Every mantel has a different story to tell.
Time lapse - preparing a 6"x8"x6' mantel
Getting the rough cut 6x8 ready. My daughters 'enjoy' working in my shop but only for short periods of time. I asked them once on a scale of 1 to 10 how much they like it and they said 7 b/c they get to cut and sand things. I'll take whatever time they give me. :)
